The smallest town in the world

Hum.  That's its name, not an expression of disbelief.  This tiny town, with a population that is sometimes quoted as 17 and at other times 23, is in the north west of Croatia.  It is enclosed by town walls so I assume that's why it's considered a town rather than a village.  In fact for such a tiny place (only two roads) it packs in some interesting features:
  • The local church has wall writings in Glagolitic script, an early form of the Croatian language.
  • Also in the church there are medieval frescos.
  • A local speciality is a type of brandy made to a secret recipe which includes mistletoe.

  4. Brandy, Religion and Art in an intimate setting. Those flies on the town walls could probably tell a story or two... ;) Thanks for the glimpse, as always.

  9. Oh, I thought mistletoe was poisonous! Maybe my mother just had to tell me that to prevent me putting it in my mouth. :)

More and more I try to concoct ways in which I could convince Stephen to go on holiday to the Balkan countries next summer. He's not buying it though. :(

  10. The architecture of the buildings looks very appealing.Love the stonework. But is the police officer, mailman, and mayor all the same person?
