A card and a stamp of the Winter Palace in St Petersburg which is one of Russia's World Heritage sites.
An earlier card had other beautiful stamps. The one in the top left corner is the Church of our Savior on the Spilled Blood (Спаса на Крови) in St Petersburg too. The others I think show the University of Moscow. I can't read the writing but maybe somebody else can.
It may not seem such a faraway place bit it's a faraway dream of mine to take a river trip from Moscow to St Petersburg.
This is a post for Sunday Stamps, now hosted by Violet Sky at "See it on a Postcard!"
I have never actually visited St Petersberg. We booked a holiday there many years ago (when it was still Leningrad) but it got cancelled at the last minute. A fine card. It looks like a lovely city.
ReplyDeleteAh, someone else with the same dream.....
ReplyDeleteThe Russian letters are very confusing when they don't use standard typewritten letters.
ReplyDeleteI have received this stamp also. Cool! thank you for participating this week.
ReplyDeleteThe Winter Palace is very impressive, even on the stamp.

ReplyDeleteIve seen that Winter Palace stamp...and love it...but in combination with the card it is just perfect! Yes, St. Petersburg is on my list of places to visit as well :)
ReplyDeleteStunning combination of winter palace card and stamp. Yes a river trip does sounds wonderful. When I went we travelled on the sleeper train between the two cities. I would love to revisit.
ReplyDeleteWe did an overnight St. Petersburg stop on a cruise, arriving at 7AM one morning and sailing at 7PM the following night...what a spectacular city with beautiful architecture. In the days of the czars, it must have really been something.
ReplyDeleteHello from Moscow! Your blog is very interesting, I'm enjoyining it.)
ReplyDeleteThe phrase roughly translates: "honor of the Russian people require to show the ability and the severity of it in the Sciences and that our country can use their own sons not only in military courage and in other important matters, but in the reasoning of the high knowledge".
By the way, I was in St. Petersburg, it's absolutely charming city.
